The Popularity of the All-on-4 Dental Implant Procedure

As dental implant Irving Dental Implantstechnology has progressed, more people have chosen implants to replace missing teeth.

With these technological advances, more options are available to those who wish to have dental implants. One new approach to dental implants is the All-on-4 dental implant procedure. This procedure takes less time than traditional dental implants, and is usually less expensive. In addition, many people who are unable to have traditional dental implants placed due to bone loss in the jaw can benefit from the All-on-4 procedure.

How All-on-4 Works

Traditional dental implant placement requires five to six implants to stabilize a full-bridge prosthetic. In many cases, patients have experienced bone loss in the jaw due to long-term denture use. The traditional method requires these patients to undergo bone grafts and other invasive procedures in order to provide a sufficiently strong base for their dental implants.

With All-on-4, only four dental implants are used. Since the front part of the jaw is less likely to experience major bone loss, two are placed there. The other two are fixed into the back part of the jaw, but at an angle so that, again, the implant can be placed in a denser area of the jawbone. A bridge is then permanently affixed to the four implants, providing long-lasting, natural-looking teeth. Recovery time is usually much shorter than with traditional dental implants.

Who Benefits from All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Those who have been unable to have dental implants placed in the past due to bone loss are the most likely to benefit from the All-on-4 dental implant procedure. Also, those who have chosen not to have implants due to concerns about invasive bone grafting procedures might also find All-on-4 to be a better option.
